Artesa means craftsman and connotes handcrafted in Catalan, language of Barcelona and their owner, Codorniu is one of the world's biggest and oldest wineries. The Codorniu Group essentially consists of eight amazing wineries whose wines are enjoyed daily in over 100 countries around the world. They share five centuries of history with 15 generations of an outstanding winemaking family. In the past few years, Artesa has purchased over 400 acres in the Alexander Valley to plant Bordeaux varieties and a 300 acres Sonoma Coast estate to grow Burgundian grapes. They handcraft wines from single vineyard blocks, treating them independently and keeping them separate throughout the winemaking process. Only the best lots become Artesa wines. Artesa seeks out the supreme vineyards in the leading appellations for each grape variety to secure the utmost quality fruit available. That way, their wines are the highest expression of both variety and appellation. Artesa is devoted to handcrafting small lots of ultra-premium still wines. From the finest vineyards and foremost appellations for each variety, Artesa creates numerous stylistically distinct bottlings. Style by appellation is central to their winemaking philosophy.
