Babcock Winery
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.
One of California's brightest stars in the field of winemaking is Bryan Babcock. Since 1984, Bryan has been producing wines of outstanding quality from his family owned winery located on the far western edge of the Santa Ynez Valley in northern Santa Barbara County. The quality of Bryan's wines speaks for themselves, yet it is his individual commitment to excellence that stands out so much.
By the end of 1983, different notable winemakers had purchased Babcock fruit and made convincing wines. It was quickly becoming obvious that the soil and cool climate of the Babcock estate was perfect for producing ultra-premium wine grapes.
Still family-owned and operated, Babcock Winery and Vineyards is a growing 20,000 case winery with 80 acres presently planted to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Experimental varieties such as Albarino and Tempranillo from Spain, and Pignolo from Italy, are being evaluated.
Bryan acknowledges the natural characteristics of each grape selection along with the exclusive quality derived from the soil in which it is grown. Through his basic wine making approach, Bryan establishes a theoretical profile for his wines. Integrity and quality are supreme to the wines of Babcock Winery and Vineyards. Because of Bryan's remarkably high standards, no matter the varietals or vintage, Babcock wines are always among the best. Babcock wines feature cool climate, estate-grown fruit as well as grapes from select local vineyards. Highly academic and flavorful, each wine possesses typical characteristics.
