Balletto Vineyards
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country. Balletto Vineyards was founded by John Balletto with his wife. In 2001, the Ballettos crushed sufficient Russian River Valley fruit for 391 cases of Chardonnay and 689 cases of Pinot Noir. In 2002, they again crushed small amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and added Pinot Gris from their Sonoma Coast vineyard. The Ballettos feel fortunate enough to sell the majority of their grapes to other wineries, selecting for themselves little quantities from many diverse clones and soil types. Balletto Winery is situated in the southwest area of the Russian River Valley in the middle of the 280 acres Balletto family property. The Balletto family felt that the area of land they owned along the Laguna was so stunning that it should be shared with others. They were able to come to an agreement with Sonoma County's Agriculture Preservation and Open Space District to preserve this land for all those living in the area and for visitors to their wonderful county. Balletto has two vineyards in the Russian River Valley from which they receive grapes to make wine. The main vineyard and the winery are located at 5700 Occidental Road in Santa Rosa, California. The western edge of the vineyard is nearby to the Laguna de Santa Rosa waterway, which is a main tributary to the Russian River. This vineyard is located in the Santa Rosa Plains area of the Russian River Valley and has 3 diverse clones of Chardonnay on 100 acres. The majority of their fruit is sold to other wineries, but they feel fortunate to be in the unique position of a small winery with the flexibility to choose from a broad range of clones grown on many different soils.
Sharing the tasting room at Balletto Vineyards is the Dutton-Goldfield winery. Presenting wine enthusiasts with one of the truly great combinations of two premier Russian River Valley Wineries at one location, Balletto Vineyards produces varietals true wines that are expressive of the terror.
