Domaine de la Terre Rouge
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.
Their President and Winemaker Bill Easton has been in the wine trade for over 30 years, not only as a winemaker, but also as a wine retailer, importer, along with vineyard consultant. Terre Rouge and Easton Wines is situated in California on the West Slope of the Sierra Nevada in Amador County’s Shenandoah Valley. Their wines are made from vineyards in four Sierra Foothill counties that include El Dorado, Placer, Amador and Calaveras.
The style of their wines emphasizes balanced flavors, full middle palate, deep color and a long finish, with power and finesse. Their goal has been to make the finest wines possible from their region. Terre Rouge means Red Earth. This vermillon-colored soil is one of hallmarks of their region. The wines are aged in the best accessible cooperage in their solar powered winery. No expense is spared in bringing their customers some of the finest artisan wines made in the world.
Their winery and vineyards are at the biotic transition zone between the Foothill Oak Belt as characterized by the Sierra Foothill Woodland on the Terre Rouge label, and the Yellow Pine Belt as characterized by the Ponderosa Pine on the Easton label. They farm their vineyards sustainably and their winery derives most of its electrical power from solar panels positioned the roof of the main winery building. They make over twenty dissimilar wines, many of which are very small production. Each is exclusive and site-specific with a sense of place all of their own.
