Kunde Estate Winery

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

Kunde Estate Winery and Vineyards produces ultra-premium, estate-grown and handcrafted wines in the finest traditions of the renowned Sonoma Valley. Their founder, Louis Kunde, who emigrated from Germany, acquired the Wildwood Vineyards ranch with its acclaimed iron-rich, ancient red volcanic soils in 1904. These vineyards were first planted in 1879 by pioneer John Drummond with imported cuttings from Chateaux Margaux and Lafite Rothschild.

A reproduction of the original Kinneybrook Ranch cattle barn that stood on the site for more than 100 years, their 17,000 square feet Kunde Estate Winery is a symbol of respect for their past as well as the foundation for their future. Built in 1990 in collaboration with the Sonoma County Historical Society, the winery bares the estate’s original Bonded Winery Number 202. The winery is home to their modern winemaking facilities, from stainless-steel crusher-stemmers and fermenting tanks, to the finest French and American oak barrels.

In crafting Kunde Estate wines, classic winemaking techniques are utilized, such as cultured and native yeasts, malolactic fermentation, aging sur lies, and barrel aging to achieve overall balance between fruit and intensity with a goal of creating stylish and complex wines. The reward for combining old-world care and modern winemaking has been a long list of medals and critical acclaim.

Over the past one hundred years, five generations of the Kunde family have farmed their 2000 acre estate in Sonoma County’s fabled Valley of the Moon. From the valley floor, to the rolling hills, to the towering, terraced slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, they grow and harvest more than twenty wine grape varietals to create ultra-premium, estate wines that capture the beauty and flavors of this land.

Kunde Estate Winery and Vineyards continue to refine their sustainable wine growing practices through innovation and deep, personal commitment. They believe it is their duty as winegrowers to protect and give back to the land that has blessed them with its beauty and bounty. On their 2,000 acre estate, they manage five distinct eco-systems like riparian, aquatic, oak woodlands, native grasses and chaparral, as well as their 700-acres of estate vineyards.
