Martinelli Winery
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country. The Martinelli family has been growing grapes in the Russian River Valley since 1887. At the ages of 19 and 16, Giuseppe Martinelli and Luisa Vellutini eloped from their little village in the Toscany region of Italy, making their way to California looking for land to farm and establish a winery. Giuseppe had been a winemaker in Italy and with his viticultural acquaintance he was hired to plant a vineyard for a farmer in Forestville. In two years he earned enough money, and borrowed some from a local wood cutter, to buy some land. Helen Turley is the winemaker and Bryan Kvamme is assistant winemaker. All of the Martinelli Estate vineyards are farmed by Lee Martinelli, and two sons Lee, and George Martinelli. The wines are prepared by their winemaker, Helen Turley, and assistant winemaker, Bryan Kvamme. These handcrafted wines are un-fined, un-filtered, neither cold nor heat stabilized and may contain naturally occurring sediment. They recommend decanting or allowing the bottle to sit upright in a cold place previous to serving. Some of the most popular wine products that this winery offers include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Syrah, Muscat Alexandria, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc.
The goal of Martinelli Estate Vineyard’s winemaking program is to create wines of uncompromising quality with optimum flavor and aromatic components that reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyards from which they come.
