Mumm Napa

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California's landscape is as diverse as its people. From foggy coastlines to dry endless deserts, lush green mountains to rolling hills of vineyards. A morning of snow boarding in the mountains and then ocean kayaking at sunset, this glorious Golden State offers it all.

Guy Devaux brought the champenoise from his native France to Napa Valley. In doing so, he created a sparkling wine with California attitude and style. The winery he established, Mumm Cuvee Napa, was completed in 1986 embracing all the classic techniques and theories.

In 2002 Ludovic Dervin was named winemaker at Mumm Napa. Rob McNeill oversees all aspects of the winery, bringing in more than 20 years experience of producing quality sparkling wines, honing his expertise at such notable wineries as Scharffenberger Cellars in Mendocino County, Piper Sonoma in Sonoma County and Schramsberg Vineyards in Napa.

In Mumm Napa sources grapes from the cool southern Carneros region, Yountville’s warmer climate and the hot mid-valley Oakville and Rutherford regions. The region’s natural climate, soil and exposure foster the perfect balance and ripeness to produce sparkling wines using the traditional French process. Each of the areas lends different characters to the wine.  Mumm Napa combines technological innovation with traditional care in the vineyard. To preserve quality, grapes are handpicked and placed into small, molded plastic containers, affectionately known as Famous Yellow Boxes.

The winery offering different types of wines from the Carneros region in the Methode Champenoise Traditionelle, Mumm Napa, are the white Chardonnay, the red Pinot Noir, the red Pinot Meunier, the white Pinot Gris and the Fino sherry. American Oak Barrel Barrels made from oak wood from American forests. American oak barrels are generally thought to impart more aggressive wood flavors than do french oak barrels. The Wine Enthusiast Magazine calls Mumm Napa as one of the best tasting experiences in America.

There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting. It’s always best to get off the beaten track and find the other gold that still exists and enjoy the beautiful scenery along these wine trails in this beautiful State.
