Robert Talbott Vineyards
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country. Robert Talbott Vineyards was founded in 1982. Robert Talbott Vineyards is the story of one family's promise to strict standards of fineness, belief in the value of hard work, recognition of the wisdom of simplicity and devotion to the family as life's center. Robert Talbott, his wife Audrey, and their son Robb moved to Carmel, California, in 1950 where they started a tie company. As the Robert Talbott Studio grew to be globally acclaimed as a leader in the luxury tie and clothing business, the family's interest in someday producing exceptional Chardonnay became profound. By 1989 the Talbott had produced numerous very successful vintages and earned significant praise from the wine community. The wines had gained a devoted following and vintages would constantly sell out long before the next release. Although still very small, the brand had outgrown the original winery. Planted with the Corton-Charlemagne Chardonnay clone in 1982 by Robb Talbott, their 24-acre, tightly spaced vineyard grows in an almost soil less mixture of shale and granite on a mountaintop 8 miles from Carmel Bay at 1,200 feet elevation. The climate is moderated by cool sea fogs, both in the morning and the evening. Crop yields are naturally extremely small at Diamond T due to the challenging growing conditions and the growing season is extended by the vineyard’s proximity to the sea. It is common for Diamond T to yield less than one ton per acre. The grapes from Diamond T are strongly flavored with amazing concentration.
Presently the demand for the wines produced by Robert Talbott far exceeds the supply almost since the first release. In the future, as in the past, the Talbott Family intends to keep their production small so they can preserve their strict quality standards and continue to please their customers with typical handmade wines of notable intensity, balance and elegance.
