Sanford Winery
Sanford Winery is one of the California’s leading wineries that has grown through excellence and quality of wines offered. The winery was established in 1971 and discovered an overlooked, grape-growing treasure in the Santa Rita Hills. Recognizing the potential combination of climate and soil conditions, Sanford planted the area's first Pinot Noir in its Sanford and Benedict vineyard.
Today, Sanford Winery produces a globally celebrated portfolio of wines from top vineyards located throughout California's finest appellations. These estate vineyards lie within the Santa Rita Hills American Viticultural Area in Santa Barbara County. Its maritime winds create a cool growing climate where the classic Burgundian varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blossom.
Sanford and Benedict Vineyards possess a mantle of hard, siliceous chert gravel covering deep, well-drained soils, that best suit for Pinot. In all, 135 acres of the 500 acre ranch are under vine. The Pinot Noir is spread over 68 acres and Chardonnay over 52 acres, with 15 acres of other grape varieties. The Rancho La Rinconada Vineyardis a 438 acre ranch that has 130 acres under vine, primarily Pinot Noir over 60 acres and Chardonnay over 70 acres.
Sanford Winery produces Chardonnay that possesses blend of grapes from La Rinconada, Sanford and Benedict, and Bien Nacido Vineyards. This crisp, well structured Chardonnay is a good example of the wine that has bright tropical fruit notes with underlying minerality.
The Sanford and Benedict Pinot Noir, on the other hand, come from the original vines planted in 1971. These 32 year old vines are the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the Santa Ynez Valley. Primarily from the Mount Eden selection, this wine is always highly aromatic and classically Burgundian. This wine is fermented in 100 percent new French Oak for 18 months and is not filtered.
In addition, Sanford Winery also produces award winning wines including Sanford Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir-Vin Gris and many more that share a different combination of spice, fruits and aromas of flowers altogether. Several excellent dessert wines are also produced.
Sanford Winery’s wines are made from many high quality California grape-growing regions. Their regional varietals offer a series of appealingly priced varietal explicit wines that are perfect for casual dinner wines and restaurant wine lists.
