Sunstone Winery
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country. Sunstone Vineyards and Winery is located 30 minutes north of Santa Barbara and is one of the most beautiful wineries and tasting rooms in the Santa Ynez Valley. Sunstone's tasting room is reminiscent of some of the small wineries in the Provencal French countryside, featuring a kitchen complete with a wood-burning oven and two stone barrel-aging caves built into the hillside. The Rice Family farms their 78 acre vineyards in an organic, bio-sustainable manner, meeting all California Certified Organic Farmer standards. The Rice Family’s holistic approach of producing exceptional quality wines is achieved by keeping the entire winegrowing and winemaking process synonymously in mind, while carefully planning each step to preserve the maximum quality possible. Meticulous canopy and crop management is employed to produce wines of firm structure and strongly developed varietal flavor at harvest. Sunstone's wines are grown in the vineyard, explains Bion Rice. As winegrowers, their goal is to ensure a high quality wine before the grapes get to the winery. All of Sunstones wines are handcrafted in small lots and are moved gently and minimally processed, with constant sensory evaluation of aromas and flavors along the way. The wines age in French or American oak barrels for up to twenty-four months in Sunstones unique barrel aging caves.
The goal of Sunstone Winery is to create wines of uncompromising quality with optimum flavor and aromatic components that reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyards from which they come.
