Arvin
California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia. Arvin is a city in Kern County, California, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 12,956 inhabitants. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 12.5 square kilometers. The population density was 1,040.0 per square kilometers. There were 3,145 housing units at an average density of 252.5 per square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 40.0 percent under the age of 18, 12.8v from 18 to 24, 28.8 percent from 25 to 44, 12.5 percent from 45 to 64, and 5.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 111.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.3 males. The Arvin Post Office was established in 1914 and the community incorporated as a city in 1960. The city was named after Arvin Richardson, who was an area postmaster in the early 1900s. The Arvin Tiller started publication in 1939 and Arvin High School was built in 1949. Arvin is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times.
