Benicia
California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia. Benicia is a waterside city in Solano County, California, United States. It was the first city in California to be founded by Anglo-Americans. The population was 26,865 inhabitants in 2000 census. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 40.4 square kilometers out of it is land and 7.0 square kilometers of it 17.31 percent is water. In the city the population was spread out with 27.1 percent under the age of 18, 6.5 percent from 18 to 24, 28.3 percent from 25 to 44, 28.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 9.3 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.1 males. Benicia was founded on May 19, 1847 by Robert Semple, Thomas O. Larkin, and Comandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, on land sold to them by General Vallejo, and named for the General's wife, Francisca Benicia Carillo de Vallejo. Benicia is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in California worth paying a visit while touring the country.
