Claremont




California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.

Claremont is a municipality in eastern Los Angeles County, California, USA, about 45 kilometers east of downtown Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Claremont is known for its seven educational institutions and several unique retirement communities. In 2000, the population of the city was 35,182 and an area of 34.8 square kilometers. The first known inhabitants of the Claremont region were the Gabrieleno Indians.  

Claremont is located at the eastern end of Los Angeles County and is adjacent to the cities of Upland, Pomona, La Verne and Montclair and San Bernardino County. Claremont is approximately 24 miles east of Pasadena and 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Claremont is also home to the Claremont Institute. In the city the population was spread out with 20.7 percent under the age of 18, 18.6 percent from 18 to 24, 22.8 percent from 25 to 44, 23.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 14.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.1 males.
