Dana Point
California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.
Dana Point is a city located in southern Orange County, California. The city was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named for Richard Henry Dana, Jr, author of Two Years Before the Mast, which included a description of the area. Dana describes the locale, including neighboring San Juan Capistrano, as the only romantic spot in California. One of the very few known specimens of the mega mouth shark was caught off Dana Point in 1990.
The city has a total area of 76.2 square kilometers. The 17.2 square kilometers of it is land and 59.1 square kilometers of it 77.45 percent is water. In the city the population was spread out with 20.6 percent under the age of 18, 7.1 percent from 18 to 24, 31.4 percent from 25 to 44, 28.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 13.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.
