According to the 2000 US Census, Palos Verdes Estates is the 81^st richest place in the United States with at least 1,000 households.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13,340 people, 4,993 households, and 4,119 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,075.3 per square kilometers. The city is served by Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.
