Santa Clara
California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.
Santa Clara, founded in 1777 and incorporated in 1852, is a city in Santa Clara County, in the state of California. The city is the site of the eighth of 21 California missions, Mission Santa Clara de Asis, and was named after the mission. The Mission and Mission Gardens are located on the grounds of Santa Clara University.
Santa Clara is home to both Mission College and Santa Clara University, the latter being the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of California. The city has a total area of 47.6 square kilometers is all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 102,361 people, 38,526 households, and 24,117 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,149.1 per square kilometers.
