The population was 12,651 inhabitants at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of 8.4 square kilometers. As of the census of 2000, there were 12,651 people, 4,026 households, and 3,345 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,507.6 per square kilometers. There were 4,144 housing units at an average density of 493.8 per square kilometers.
