WPA Announces 2006 Finalists for Largest Publishing Awards in Western States
The Maggies, known as “the Oscars of the magazine industry”, have received nearly 2000 entries, representing 400 magazines. Emmy magazine has garnered a record 16 nominations this year, the highest number ever in the awards history.
Los Angeles, CA, USA. (March 13, 2006) The Western Publications Association (WPA) has announced the 2006 Finalists for the 55th Maggie Awards, the most prestigious magazine publishing award in the western United States. The Maggies, known as “the Oscars of the magazine industry”, have received nearly 2000 entries, representing 400 magazines. Emmy magazine has garnered a record 16 nominations this year, the highest number ever in the awards history. Emmy, “the magazine of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences”, was awarded best magazine in the field of communication, advertising and entertainment in 2005. The entries are equally split between consumer and trade magazines. Other finalists include: DGA Quarterly (the magazine of the Director’s Guild) with 4 nominations, California Lawyer Magazine, with 7 nominations, Edutopia (owned by the George Lucas Foundation), with 6 nominations, Diablo Magazine with 7 nominations, and PC World with 11 nominations. A total of 85 Maggies will be handed out at the upcoming awards banquet on April 21, 2006, held at the Westin Hotel at Los Angeles Airport. Over 600 publishing professionals will attend this black-tie affair. A spectacular high-tech multi-media show featuring the entrants opens the program. Attendees of this cocktail reception will be invited to listen to the lyrics and melodies of Paul Balfour, internationally known cabaret entertainer.
