Tablas Creek Vineyard
Tablas Creek is the realization of the combined efforts of two of the international wine community's leading families, the Perrin family, proprietors of Chateau de Beaucastel, and Robert Haas, founder of Vineyard Brands. Since the 1970s, they believed that the California climate was ideal for planting Rhone varietal grapes. In 1987, they began the lengthy process of creating a Chateauneuf-du-Pape style vineyard from scratch in the new world. The Tablas Creek Vineyard partnership was born, with the Perrin and Haas families as majority partners, and French and American wine loving friends as minority partners. To ensure that the wines at Tablas Creek were of the highest quality and same genetic source of those at Beaucastel, the partners imported vinifera from the French estate. Several clones each of Mourvedre, Grenache Noir, Syrah, Counoise, Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc were imported from France. The red wines, comprising about two third of the vineyard's production, are made from Mourvedre, that tastes of ripe plum and strawberry fruit, with animal flavors of red meat and mushrooms. Grenache Noir provides fruit, tannin, and acidity. It tastes of currant, cherry, and raisin, with aromatic spice of black pepper, menthol, and licorice. Syrah provides firm tannin and aromatics, as well as blackberry and currant fruit. It tastes of smoke, tar, and black pepper. Counoise, that tastes of blueberry and strawberry fruit with spice notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. It has soft tannins and is a ripe purple-red color. The white wines are made from Roussanne, that possess golden color, excellent aging potential, and tastes of honey and honeysuckle fruit. On the other hand, Viognier is highly aromatic, with a nose of peach, apricot, and violets. It has a mineral mouth with more peach fruit and moderate acidity. However, Marsanne tastes of melon and minerals, and has a golden straw color. Picpoul Blanc has got bright acidity, minerality, and clean lemony flavor and Grenache Blanc.
Tablas Creek Vineyard is one of the California’s leading wineries that has grown through excellence and quality of wines offered. The Winery invites one and all to discover, experience and taste the many pleasures of their products.
