Terraces Winery
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is also the home of wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.
Located in the eastern foothills of Rutherford, Terraces at Quarry Vineyards was first settled as a homestead in the 1870's. In 1881, Charles Scheggia purchased the property and planted the first vines. Using stone quarried on the property, the old winery was completed in 1885. Unfortunately, the winery was destroyed by fire after only one crush. Due to the additional financial burdens of a phylloxera outbreak during the same period Scheggia never rebuilt the winery. This special place is the demarcation between the valley and hills of California's finest wine growing region. Since 1985, the Terraces have used this special fruit to produce small handcrafted lots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
Founder Wayne Hogue purchased 21 acres from Joe Werle in the mid seventies, planting the first vines on the steep hillsides in 1981. The Terraces property is divided nearly equally between Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, growing both varietals in shallow volcanic loam over a deep subsoil of tufa. Both the Cabernet and the Zinfandel have won critical acclaim over the years.
The Terraces produces limited quantities of Cabernet and Zinfandel from the fruit grown on terraced vineyards. Both wines were released on October 1, 2003. The Terraces 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, was born from a small yielding harvest. This plush wine has classic black current and berry aromas with full flavors and moderate tannins that leads to a long finish. The Terraces 2003 Napa Valley Zinfandel has deep ruby color with ripe berry and clove aromas which leads to full body with soft tannins and a long, fruit-filled finish.
The Terraces winery is one of the California’s leading wineries that has grown through excellence and quality of wines offered. Terraces wineries are one of the best in the wine business and are aware that quality is not accidental but by high intention and perseverance and are devoted to follow it on any backgrounds.
