Turnbull Wine Cellars
California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country. In the spring of 1993, Patrick O’Dell purchased the winery named Johnson Turnbull Vineyards and renamed the property Turnbull Wine Cellars. At that time the image of the turning bull on the label was redesigned. The newer figure is derived from a bull’s figure on a Minoan drinking container. This crest continues to be embossed on every label, reflecting their respect for the history of the distinguished Turnbull name. Turnbull Vineyard is 21 acres standing proudly alongside the winery at the northern boundary of the Oakville appellation. They also host several wine tasting events. Jon Engelskirger is the winemaker who joined Turnbull in January 1998. His 20 years of wine making experience include stints as winemaker at Hanna Winery and Robert Pepi Winery, and as an associate winemaker at Silverado Vineyards. Some of their most popular wines include 2005 Old Bull Red, 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, 2003 Black Label, 2005 Viognier, 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003 Merlot and 2003 Syrah and also the Turnbull Black Label Proprietary Red Wine.
The goal of Turnbull Vineyard‘s winemaking program is to create wines of uncompromising quality with optimum flavor and aromatic components that reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyards from which they come.
